The Qualified Person course is designed for people that have education, experience, certifications and proven ability to solve problems relating to subject matter issue. Strength of building materials, analyzing loads, making structural modifications, and integrating fall arrest systems into existing building codes and related requirements are the most common fall protection issues. Students interested in the Qualified Person program should have education, background, or licensure in civil or structural engineering.
It must be noted that fall protection systems often require compliance with building codes, licensure, permits, and inspections. Although any person can enroll in the Qualified Person course, this course does not permit students to practice engineering. Depending on the fall protection task, location, and structure, a professional engineer license may be required.
